I have been patiently awaiting the release of Deante' Hitchcock's debut album BETTER ever since he dropped "I Got Money Now" back in April, proving that he deserves a seat at the table. That being said, there is a major difference in being able to put out a hot single and crafting an influential and successful album. So, for the last month I have wondered what BETTER would look like and if the Atlanta rapper would be able to create a project that would give him greater name recognition.

Hitchcock has released mixtapes and EPs in the past, although BETTER definitely feels like a debut album and this is one of my favorite things about it. It is choppy at times, but it is also raw and with nearly every verse you can feel how much this project means to Hitchcock. In the opening track "I Remember", the 27-year old speaks upon the obstacles and lessons that have molded his identity and placed him where he is, vowing to never forget these defining struggles:
"I remember droppin' out of college, watchin' all my classmates
On God, I'm sorry, mama I ain't got my degree
I remember stressin' out about it, thought it, then the cash came
And now I'm still exactly who I thought I would be
And I remember everything"
Despite having notable features from JID, Young Nudy, 6LACK, Miguel, and St. Beauty throughout the album, my favorite moments come when Hitchcock is flowing and reflecting on his own. This is depicted on "I Remember", "Shadowman's Interlude", and "Growing Up/Mother God", as these are the realest moments that makes the rappers bursting potential obvious. Hitchcock also shows versatility by putting out a few more bangers to go along with "I Got Money Now", in "Attitude", "Circles", and "Angels". These tracks prove that he can also be your go-to artist to bump while driving around town with the windows down.
Deante' Hitchcock should be proud of BETTER, as it seems to offer us a little bit of everything and allows us to get to know him. That being said, I do not believe that the Atlanta native is anywhere near his potential and I am more than excited to continue following him as he progresses and continues to drop bops.
My Favorite Tracks:
I Got Money Now (feat. JID)
Attitude (feat. Young Nudy)
How TF (feat. 6LACK)
Growing Up/Mother God
Angels
