Quarantine Covers: Five Fantastic Cover Versions

Black Pumas "Fast Car”(2020)

The original song by Tracy Chapman (1988) is a classic and like fine wine, it just continues to get better with age. Sure, nothing could ever top the soul singer-songwriter’s powerful and catchy vocals, but Black Pumas do a pretty great job. They released their version of “Fast Car” on June 9, 2020 and it’s been on repeat for the last month.

Luke Combs “Dive”(2018)

This song was never that great until Luke Combs covered it at “Sound Stage Nashville”. The original by Ed Sheeran is emotional and pretty, but he doesn’t have the soft swagger that allows Combs to make the song what it is. The rawness and uniqueness that Combs performs with is pretty amazing and transforms “Dive” into a must listen.

Frank Ocean “Moon River”(2018)

Maybe one of the best covers ever, Frank is able to make us care about the vintage song again. When Audrey Hepburn originally sang this song in 1961, she probably never imagined that greats like Frank Sinatra and Frank Ocean would be covering the song. Frank undoubtedly does it best and nobody will ever do it better.

Glass Animals “Heart-Shaped Box”(2020)

Back in April Glass Animals dropped “Quarantine Covers”, which includes covers of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” and Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful”. Both are fantastic and they were able to make each song their own, although “Heart-Shaped Box” really blew me away. Dave Bayley might not be Kurt Cobain, but he is able to do his own thing with this track and is definitely cool enough.

Denzel Curry “Bulls On Parade (triple j Like A Version)”(2019)

Denzel Curry is the best and the only current rapper that is able to cover the legendary, Rage Against The Machine. Denzel brings energy, playful anger, and hot bars while covering this track and it is a must watch on YouTube. The range that Denzel puts on display is incomparable and from a vocal perspective Denzel is a top rapper in the game.
