As I was gearing up for another week of releases, I stumbled upon an absolute gem last night in RIMON and her most recent EP I Shine, U Shine. The 6-song project was released May 14 and features rappers Darrell Cole and Denzel Curry. Although these two rappers bring some serious heat on “Got My Back” and “I Shine, U Shine”, it is RIMON who really shines. The Amsterdam-based artist caught my attention immediately on the opening track “The Morning” and never lost it, making this EP one of my favorites so far this year.
It is clear that RIMON gets inspiration from other artists and genres, such as Erykah Badu, although the R&B singer still boasts originality and I strongly believe that she is one of hottest up-and-coming singer/songwriters out there. The lyrical prowess of the young artist is on full display throughout the EP, as she speaks upon love, emotion, and loyalty in an amazingly smooth manner. On “never learned how to cope” she sings:

"Mmmmm
See I never learned how to cope
The walls I had to climb
Leafs falling all the time
Even in the summer
See you never learned to let go
The paths you cannot control
Is weighing heavy on your soul"
I urge you to listen to I Shine, U Shine right now and I guarantee you will not regret it. You will instantly feel cooler and calmer after listening to this soulful project, and it will definitely make you want to go kick it with RIMON in Amsterdam!
